How PowerBall numbers work

This uses the current 1–16 PowerBall pool described in the operator’s Participants Code of Practice. Older guides may still show 1–20. POWERBALL XTRA is a separate draw and is not included.

This page is for PowerBall (South Africa). Main numbers are distinct and displayed in ascending order. Extra numbers are selected independently from their own pool; a value may also appear among the main numbers.

The odds shown on this page

Match all 5 main numbers and the PowerBall in one draw. Under a fair draw, the displayed chance for one complete line in one round is 1 in 33,900,160. This is the specified top-match category, not the chance of winning any prize.

C(50, 5) × 16 = 33,900,160

C(n, k) counts unordered selections of k distinct values from n. The science of chance explains why past results and visually balanced patterns do not improve a particular line’s chance.
