EuroMillions Odds: Five Numbers, Two Lucky Stars and 139,838,160 Outcomes

EuroMillions uses five distinct main labels from 1–50 and two distinct Lucky Stars from 1–12. The full-match outcome count is C(50,5)C(12,2) = 139,838,160. Under uniform independent selection of those two pools, one complete line has probability one divided by that count.

This number describes matching the main set and both stars. It does not combine every additional code-based promotion or prize attached to an official entry.

The stars contribute 66 outcomes There are C(50,5) = 2,118,760 possible main sets. The two stars form an unordered pair without repetition, so there are C(12,2) = 66 star sets. Using 12² would wrongly allow repeated stars and count order.

Every main set pairs with every star set. Multiplying 2,118,760 by 66 gives the full denominator. A main label can share a numeral with a star because those pools are separate.

Five main numbers but no Lucky Stars Suppose the main set matches exactly. To match neither of your two selected stars, the drawn star pair must come from the other ten labels. There are C(10,2) = 45 such pairs out of 66.

The probability is therefore 45/139,838,160, approximately one in 3,107,514.67. Matching all five main labels while ignoring the star result has probability 1/2,118,760. These are different events; the smaller denominator belongs to the broader one.

A complete formula for exact matches Exactly r main matches and s star matches has probability C(5,r)C(45,5−r)/C(50,5), multiplied by C(2,s)C(10,2−s)/C(12,2). This formula provides the mathematical categories; the official prize table determines which categories pay and how.

“All five plus one star” means exactly one star if the two-star case is a separate tier. Wording matters as much as arithmetic when interpreting a table.

Why a UK raffle code is separate An assigned code is not generated by choosing five main labels and two stars. Its outcome space and allocation mechanism are different. A number generator should not invent a code or imply that its displayed line is an official registered entry.
